IT movie - story, cast, reviews

Film: IT Cast: Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Nicholas Hamilton, Bill Skarskgard Director: Andy Muschietti This terrifying new movie adaptation of Stephen King’s novel after 1990’s made-for-TV series about unsolved child murders shouldn’t be missed except by those with an aversion to clowns like music impresario Simon Cowell. Like many of King’s books (most notably Carrie) IT is a coming-of-age story which unnerves the viewer with its visceral horror. A bunch of young hugely talented unknown actors play seven misfits aka Losers who are haunted and hunted by hate-filled bullies and the titular antagonist (Bill Skarsgard). This entity represents the sum of all the youngsters (and our) fears. The opposite of love is Fear as Evil/IT well knows and exploits. Fear disrupts, destroys and sucks at the resolve in our souls. IT, the film judiciously juxtaposes supernatural evil with real life horrors. The

US airlines scramble to evacuate residents ahead of Hurricane Irma

Airlines were racing against the clock to clear as many customers as possible from the likely Florida path of Hurricane Irma, as social and political pressure mounted for carriers to play a bigger role in aiding evacuations. As the powerful storm threatened to rip through the Florida coast by Sunday, airlines ramped up the number of flights available out of south Florida airports, where operations were likely to temporarily cease through the weekend and beyond. But flights out of the area remained extremely limited. At Miami International Airport, many outbound flights were canceled, leaving residents scrambling to rebook to anywhere outside the path of the storm. American Airlines, which has one of the larger operations in south Florida, said on Thursday it had added 16 flights out of Miami, amid more than 2,400 forced cancellations through Monday. Delta Air Lines Inc said it had upsized aircraft and added flights to increase the number of available outgoing seats by 2,000. Unite

Stephen Hawking's mission to find alien life detects mystery signals

London: A mission to explore intelligent alien life in the universe has recorded some mysterious signals coming from a galaxy three billion light years away, according to an Indian-origin scientist working on the ambitious project co-founded by Stephen Hawking. Vishal Gajjar is part of the team working under the Breakthrough Listen project - set up by Hawking, one of the world's best-known scientists, and Russian billionaire Yuri Milner - to discover the truth about the universe. The latest fast radio bursts (FRBs) prove their equipment is working well and ready to pick up signs of life if they exist. "We really have no idea about where they come from," Gajjar, one of the scientists from the University of California Berkeley Research Centre, told The Daily Telegraph. He noted: "If some form of life would like to produce a signal that is detectable to another civilisation this could be a way to do it, but I don't think they are coming from intelligent civi

Putin says Donald Trump ‘not my bride, and I’m not his groom’

Russian President Vladimir Putin has refrained from making any criticism of US President Donald Trump. Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, Putin dismissed a question whether he was disappointed in Trump as “naive.” In comments carried by Russian news agencies, Putin said Trump is “not my bride, and I’m not his groom.” Asked how Russia would feel if Trump were impeached, Putin said it would be “absolutely wrong” for Russia to discuss domestic US politics. Russian officials cheered Trump when he was elected last year, and Putin praised him as someone who wanted to improve ties with Russia. However, further US sanctions on Russia and the US decision to close a Russian consulate have raised concerns that the two countries remain far apart.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8: Release date, price, features and specs of Samsung's new 6.3-inch superphone

Samsung has unveiled its Galaxy Note 8, the latest addition to its range of plus-sized smartphones (sometimes called phablets), which come with a built-in stylus known as the S Pen. The Galaxy Note 8 was revealed at Samsung's "Unpacked" event in London in August 2017 - just over a year after the launch of the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, which was scrapped after a series of incidents involving the phones catching fire and exploding. The company's decision to continue using the Galaxy Note brand - despite the exploding phones fiasco that is said to have cost the company £4.4 billion - has surprised many industry experts. Many have warned that the company faces an uphill struggle to convince customers that the batteries in the new model are safe. The Galaxy Note 7 problems were reportedly caused by the plates inside the battery being too close to each other near its rounded corners. The battery also had defects in its insulating tape and the coating of its negati

‘We’ll see’, says Donald Trump on whether US will attack North Korea

Tokyo: North Korea on Sunday claimed a “perfect success” for its most powerful nuclear test so far, a further step in the development of weapons capable of striking anywhere in the US. President Donald Trump, asked if he would attack the North, said, “We’ll see.” The latest provocation from the isolated communist country reinforces the danger facing America, Trump had said earlier in a series of tweets, adding that “talk of appeasement” is pointless. “They only understand one thing!” Trump wrote, without elaboration, as he prepared to meet later with his national security team. It was the first nuclear test since Trump took office in January. Hours later, after attending church in Washington, the president made his “We’ll see” comment in response to a question from reporters. President Donald Trump warned Sunday that the US was considering cutting economic ties with any countries that do business with North Korea. “The US is considering, in addition to other options, stopping

Donald trumps threats will mean little to pakistan

Donald Trump’s stinging criticism of Pakistan, rebuking the country for providing safe havens to terrorists and demanding immediate change, has, understandably, gladdened hearts in New Delhi, but what are the chances this American president will succeed where his predecessors repeatedly tried and failed to change Pakistani policies perceived to be of national interest? Not bright, is the best one can say. For a start, this won’t be the first time America has threatened to cut aid to Pakistan. In fact, there are at least two occasions in the past when it actually did but that failed to alter Islamabad’s behaviour. American aid first picked up in the mid-1950s, after Pakistan joined US-led military alliances, touching $3 billion in 1963 and then fell to virtually zero in 1980, in the wake of American concerns about Islamabad’s nuclear weapons programme. However, Pakistan’s nuclear ambitions did not change and this was, therefore, the first time an aid cut didn’t work. The Soviet i

Earthquake measuring 6.3 strikes North Korea,

North Korea appeared to carry out a sixth nuclear test on Sunday, with seismic monitors measuring an “explosion” of 6.3 magnitude near its main test site, sending tensions over its weapons ambitions to new heights. The apparent test came just hours after it claimed to have developed a hydrogen bomb that could be loaded into the country’s new intercontinental ballistic missile. The South’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that the seismic tremor was detected near the North’s Punggye-ri test site. United States Geological Survey recorded the magnitude at 6.3 — larger than any previous test. Jana Pursely, a USGS geophysicist, told AFP: “It’s an explosion rather than an earthquake.” Nuclear-armed Pyongyang has long sought the means to deliver an atomic warhead to the United States, its sworn enemy. Questions remain over whether it has successfully miniaturised its weapons, and whether it has a working H-bomb, but the official Korean Central News Agency said before the qua

North Korea developed Nuclear bomb that can reach US

North Korea, paying little heed to sanctions and threats regarding its nuclear weapon program, on Sunday claimed that it has developed an advanced thermo-nuclear weapon that has 'great destructive power' and will be loaded on a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that experts believe has the range to hit much of the United States. The recent statement by North Korea comes at a time of increased regional tension in the wake of Pyongyang's recent missile tests in July, one of which was launched over Japan and the others having the potential to fly nearly 10,000 km (6,200 miles) away, putting at risk several parts of the mainland United States. North Korea Fires 3 KN-01 Missiles Into The East Sea During the tenure of Kim Jong Un, North Korea has been actively pursuing developing a nuclear device that would be small and light enough to fit on a long-range ballistic missile without impacting its range. According to North Korea's official news agency KCNA,

Has North Korea dared Donald Trump, rest of the world with sixth ‘nuclear test’

North Korea may have carried out sixth nuclear test, experts fear this after a 6.3 magnitude shook the country. Here's all that we know about the development, which is likely to further tense the situation in the Korean peninsula: Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said tremors caused by a suspected nuclear test in North Korea were at least ten times as powerful as the last time Pyongyang exploded an atomic bomb a year ago. "It was a least ten times as powerful," a JMA official said at a briefing aired by public broadcaster NHK. The previous nuclear blast in North Korea is estimated by experts to have been around 10 kilotons. Japan confirmed that North Korea conducted a nuclear test today, and lodged a formal protest with Pyongyang after a major explosion at the isolated nation's main test site. The alleged sixth nuclear test resulted in a shallow magnitude 6.3 earthquake. The test took place hours after Pyongyang said it had developed an advanced hydrogen bo

North Korea developed advanced hydrogen bomb ready for ICBM

SEOUL: North Korea said on Sunday it has developed a more advanced thermonuclear weapon that possesses "great destructive power" and will be loaded on a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that experts believe has the range to hit much of the United States. The report by North Korea's official KCNA news agency comes amid heightened regional tension following Pyongyang's two tests of ICBM missiles in July that potentially could fly about 10,000 km (6,200 miles), putting many parts of the mainland United States within range. Under third-generation leader Kim Jong Un, North Korea has been pursuing a nuclear device small and light enough to fit on a long-range ballistic missile, without affecting its range as well as making it capable of surviving re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. North Korea "recently succeeded" in making a more advanced hydrogen bomb, the country's official KCNA news agency said. "The H-bomb, the explosive po

US Forces Come Under Fire in Syria

Defense officials told VOA that U.S.-led coalition forces came under gunfire “on multiple occasions” from “unknown groups.” Army Colonel Joe Scrocca, a military spokesman in Baghdad, said there were no casualties or damage to equipment during the incidents. “We are engaged with Ankara and other parties to address this danger,” Defense Department spokesman Eric Pahon told VOA. Pahon said coalition troops will continue to perform patrols in the area controlled by the Turkish-backed Manbij Military Council, and will defend themselves against any threat. “Coalition forces are there to monitor, deter hostilities, and ensure all parties remain focused on our common enemy and the greatest threat to regional and world security, ISIS,” he said, referring to the Islamic State group. “We strongly urge all parties to remain focused on defeating I

Pakistani lawmaker attacked; child among two killed in Karachi shooting

Pakistani police say two gunmen targeting an ethnic party lawmaker after Eid prayers instead gunned down two others, including a child, in the southern port city of Karachi. Lawmaker Khawaja Izharul Hasan escaped uninjured in the attack Saturday but the child and a police officer were killed, police officer Pir Mohammad Shah said. Shah said one of the attackers was also gunned down by police during a chase. Hasan belongs to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, which represents the Urdu-speaking population. Watchdog Urges North Korea to Overturn ‘Chilling’ Death Sentences for Reporters

The Committee to Protect Journalists called on Pyongyang on Friday to overturn death sentences it had handed in absentia to two South Korean reporters for allegedly defaming the North. MOSCOW — A central court in North Korea was reported Thursday to have given death penalty to Son Hyo-rim and Yang Ji-ho and their newspaper publishers for reviewing a book about the country. "North Korea's threat to execute Son Hyo-rim and Yang Ji-ho for writing critically about the regime is at the same time ridiculous and chilling. North Korea should immediately commute the death sentence and end its hostile rhetoric," CPJ deputy chief Robert Mahoney said. The watchdog cited Son’s colleague from the Dong-A Ilbo newspaper as saying the female journalist was a culture reporter who did not cover North Korea regularly. The book, North Korea Confidential, has received extensive coverage and it is not clear why Pyongyang has singled out the two reviewers, he said
